I was reading the bible and came across these two verses:

Psa_78:57  But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
Hos_7:16  They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.

I got to thinking about what was a deceitful bow? God was talking about Israel and how after all that He had done for them they turned back to thier old ways like a deceitful bow.

A deceitful bow is a bow that looks good, it feels good, it even has a good balance to it but there is a twist in how the bow was made so that when the arrow is released it does not fly true to what it is being aimed at.

God cannot use a deceitful bow. So it seems to me very important that we determine for ourselves if we might be a deceitful bow.

When you think about it aren’t most Laodiceans deceitful bows? They think that they are rich and increased with goods to a point where they no longer think that they have any needs. You see they are not seeing themselves correctly and it is causing a twisting to how they are being made. They are only looking at the physical law and not the underlying reality of WHO they are.

Only if the fruits of God’s Holy Spirit are strong in us are we in a good realtionship with God, no matter HOW WELL we keep the laws. When we can see ourselves as God sees us we will NEVER be able to say that we have no need of anything.

God has to know that He can trust us to make a right decision based on His laws but at a Spiritual level. God’s laws are spiritual laws to be kept at a spiriutal level not just in the letter. Laodicea is so focused on the physical keeping of the laws that they think they have it made. They have forgotten the weightier matters of the law. And God is going to have to put them through the Great Tribualtion in order to wake them up to what they really need to have been working on.

We have been going through a three sermon series on what it means to be a Good and Faithful Servant. It has been enlightening. God has to know that He can trust us to make a correct decision based on His laws at the spiritual level He does not want any of us to turn out to be a Deceitful Bow that cannot be trusted to fly true.
