JUST A THOUGHT

Did God really say …?

by VINCE REIDSMA

I’ve been thinking
And it seems to me
Situations determine
What’s right for me.

Our laws get twisted
And take a spin;
I get caught,
The spin begins.
The laws are clear,
They mean what they say;
What once was black and white,
Now a shade of grey.

Even God Gave instructions – clear;
And for my protection
I must adhere.
He said “thou shalt”
And “thou shalt not”,
But where’s the loop hole
That says “I should not”?

“Customs and politics
Are constantly changing,
So how I interpret
Can stand rearranging.”

We’ve drifted so far
In our goals and deeds
And all is done
To suit our felt needs.

When a deed in question
Would lead me astray,
I’m tempted to ask,
“Did God really say…?”

“I think what God said
Had good intent
But I’m not certain
Just what He meant.”

“I see what it says
And the truth I seek,
But I wonder just what
It meant in the Greek?”

“ The NIV, KJ, NKJB, NASB,
TLB, NEV, TLBT,
I’ll keep searching these
Until I find one
That says what I please.”

Next time when tempted
To interpret Truth away,
Consider this;
Who was the first to ask,

“Did God really say…?”

Scripture: ESV Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”
