I was doing a casual reading from the bible the other day and as so often happens when we do that something popped up that I had not seen before consciously. I noticed that people both good and bad were invited to the wedding supper.

Mat 22:10  So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

And then we read that a man was found without the proper wedding garment.

Mat 22:12  And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Mat 22:13  Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth

So I thought that if they invited both good and bad why was it so unusual to find someone without a proper garment. Then when I read the end of the parable it began to make sense to me.

Mat 22:14  For many are called, but few are chosen.

People are called to be part of the body of Christ but not all that are called are chosen. Look at this verse from the parable of the Sower;

Mat 13:23  But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

The only seeds that produced fruits were sown in the good ground other sprouted but did not produce fruit.

And again when we look at these verses from the parable of the talents;

Mat 25:28  Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
Mat 25:29  For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
Mat 25:30  And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The one who did not spiritually gain from what he had been given is like the person without the wedding garment and suffers the same fate.

So to have a proper wedding garment, it is not enough to just believe, we must develop the fruits of character in ourselves because of the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. It is this growing in grace and the knowledge of Jesus Christ that provides use with the proper garment to be a part of that wedding supper that we are all looking forward to.

Just thought I would share that with everyone today. Kind of lifted my spirit and understanding when I discovered it.
