Revelation 2 and 3 show seven consecutive ERAs of God’s Church since the resurrection of Christ.

In only two of these ERAs has the bible indicated a specific work being done by Christ during a specific ERA.

Rev 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
Rev 3:8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
Rev 3:9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
Rev 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Rev 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
Rev 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Rev 3:13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
Rev 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Rev 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Rev 3:22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Notice that Rev 3:8 shows Christ opening a door for those in the Philadelphian ERA to go through. It is a work that Christ was doing in Philadelphia. Those in the ERA or time phase of the church came to understand that Christ wanted us to use that open door to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom of God in power to the world and to it’s leaders as a witness.

We tied the prophecy of Mat. 24:14 and the promise of the Elijah to come to the work that Christ was doing for His church on Philadelphia. We deduced that the reason Christ was doing this was because time was short. The world was going to go into a terrible time of trouble ahead and Christ was giving especially the physical nations that have come from the tribes of Israel a last chance to repent. To change their ways so that God could protect them from what was coming. It was in a sense the world’s last chance to avoid the time of Jacob’s Trouble. The Great Tribulation prophesied to come on the Nations of Israel and on the whole world.

So what is Christ doing in this ERA of the church and why is He doing it?

Rev 3:20 shows Him standing outside the door of His people and knocking. His work in this ERA of the Laodicians is not for the world or physical Israel, this work is for those that can hear his voice. This is for Spiritual Israel. The literal “body of Christ” Those of His people who are alive in the end time age of the church and the world.

He is trying to get our attention is He not? The mental picture shown of Him knocking shows that he is reaching out to us as individuals not to the church groups or the church leaders but to each of us as individuals.

His concern is with us. With our lackadaisical attitudes and our self satisfied view of ourselves Rev 3:16-17. He commands us to repent and to do so with ZEAL. This is how we open that door to let Him in. Rev 3:18-19

But WHY? In Philadelphia we surmised that He was reaching out to physical Israel in an attempt to bring them to repentance. He did these kinds of things all the time to ancient Israel to try and get them to change so he would not have to destroy them and take them into captivity.

So now He has turned His attention to Spiritual Israel. Why? Is there something that is going to happen to Spiritual Israel that He wants to save them out of?

Notice

Luk 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
Luk 21:35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
Luk 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Most of our church groups today seem to be focused on watching for the return of Christ at the resurrection. But something else is going to happen before that. Something that Christ said we would all want to see. A special day that even the Apostles would want to see but would not because it was not going to happen in their day, but it is going to happen in our day.

Luk 17:22  And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.

Matthew told us that once the Mat 24:14 prophecy was fulfilled, that all these things that he was talking about in that chapter would be fulfilled in one generation of humanity.

Mat 24:34  Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Those of us living in the Laodicean ERA or time phase of the Church of God are living in that last generation of mankind before Christ begins to rule the Earth.

So how does that relate to what Christ is doing now?

Clearly Christ is reaching out to His church(Spiritual Israel) just like He reached out to physical Israel in the Philadelphian ERA and for the same reason. He said that He was going to send physical Israel into captivity and great tribulation and He tried to give them a last chance to repent and be saved out of that but they did not. Now in this last endtime generation of makind this Laodicean ERA of the church He is once again reaching out to save as many as possible from this time of Great Tribulation. Only this time He is reaching out to His people Spiritual Israel.

So how can he save us out of this period of terrible destruction?

Rev 12:13  And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
Rev 12:14  And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
Rev 12:15  And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
Rev 12:16  And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
Rev 12:17  And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Do you see that a place of safety is provided by God for some of His people just before the Great Tribulation begins. Do you remember above where Christ said that we should pray always that we might be accounted worthy to escape?Luk 21:36

This is what Christ is doing now and why He is doing it. Just like with physical Israel he is trying to save us from what is coming.

He says that he is going to spew the people of Laodicea out of His mouth if they do not repent of their ways. He is knocking our our doors individually in the same way he knocked on the doors of the Nations of Israel by opening up the power of the media to reach the world with the true Gospel in a way that had never been done before.

Now he is knocking on each of our doors to get us to rise up, to get awake to begin to see ourselves and to zealously repent so that as many of us as possible can be counted worthy by God the Father to escape what is coming.

Don’t be like that sleepy virgin (the church) who did not wake up in time, who made excuses and ended up missing the opportunity to go with her betrothed to safety and ended up on the streets(the Great Tribulation) you can read about that in Song of Soloman chapter 5. Song 5:2-7
