Every year it seems the conversation about Christmas begins to heat up.
Many of our people who do not keep the world’s holidays because they have pagan roots and are not something the bible tells us we should do, begin to berate others who do.
Sometimes in an effort to prove the rightness of our stance, we seem to accuse others of being pagans if they insist on keeping them.
I have to say folks when we do such as that we are going too far. Does God say that the people who are doing this are themselves pagans? Look at the basic scripture that tells us what God thinks of this practice:
Deu_12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
Now it is clear that God does not want us to keep routines borrowed from the world’s religions(pagans) to worship him. But who is he talking to here? He is talking to his people, not pagans.
This worlds Christian Religions have accepted many things that have come out of pagan religions BUT they still call on the name of Christ. Christ himself said that no man can do that lightly. So who are we to judge like that? Remember we are to judge the crime, not the person.
Anyone Not Against Us Is for Us
Mar 9:38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
Mar 9:39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
Mar 9:40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
Mar 9:41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
Why make an enemy when we could be making a friend. It is one thing to show why we believe something it is quite another to condemn someone as being a pagan. We should not be doing that. Only God can make that determination in the end.
Just thought I would make my opinion known such as it is, It is very difficult at times to keep our conversations pleasant and showing love for each other when we take that tack. Sometimes we are not really saying that but because of, HOW it is said it makes a person feel that way anyway.
Meekness and Fear brethren that is how we should be discussing matters with someone who is asking questions.
1Pe_3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
