deadman walkingThe Phrase “Dead man Walking” refers to a prisoner walking to his place of execution. A person that is soon to die.

So how could that apply to us as Christians in the Laodicean ERA of the Church of God?

Christ tells us that because of our Lukewarm attitude that He is going to spew us out of His mouth if we do not change. That references His allowing us to go into the Great Tribulation rather than being saved out of it.

Rev 3:16 So because thou art lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew thee out of my mouth.

Why is He willing to do that? What has caused so many of us to become lukewarm? Notice the next verse;

Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art the wretched one and miserable and poor and blind and naked:

It is because we say that we have need of nothing. We have so much of the riches of God’s truths that we have forgotten that we must be about our Father’s Business. We must be working and overcoming constantly. When a person thinks that they do not need anything more they begin to get lazy and sleepy. They lose that zeal or love for God’s truths that they had initially and begin to slow down and to cool off. They don’t get cold because they have so much of His truth but they stop working and their forward movement begins to slow down.

Pretty soon they begin to resemble that “Marching Band” that I have mentioned before. All dressed out in their fine colorful uniforms, Their instruments shining in the sunlight. Playing the marching song beautifully and marching in rhythm to the drum beat. They look good, they feel good, they even sound good but they are marching in place. They are not moving forward anymore. They are not moving toward the destination assigned to them.

God has always told us to move forward. Let’s look at a few scriptures regarding what God has told us to do.

Exo 14:12-15 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness. And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:

Notice Paul’s examples of running a race of moving forward to a goal in order to succeed;

1Co 9:24-27 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Jer 12:5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

Php 3:12-15 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

Think of the Ten Virgins spoken of by Matthew;

Mat 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
Mat 25:2 And five of them were foolish, and five were wise.
Mat 25:3 For the foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them:
Mat 25:4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
Mat 25:5 Now while the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
Mat 25:6 But at midnight there is a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come ye forth to meet him.
Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
Mat 25:8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out.
Mat 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Peradventure there will not be enough for us and you: go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
Mat 25:10 And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut.
Mat 25:11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
Mat 25:12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

Fully half of those spewed into the Great Tribulation will die spiritually. They are today “dead men walking” if they don’t do something NOW to replenish their supply of oil/Holy Spirit.

Peter tells us to move forward in our walk with Christ.

2Pe 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and for ever. Amen.

We are to be moving forward constantly. If we stop moving forward as many in Laodicea have, then we begin to actually quench God’s Spirit. If we think that we have no need of anything, then we have stopped moving. Look at what Christ tells us;

Luk_9:62 But Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Ecc 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

The bible tells us that only the overcomers will enter into the Kingdom. Laodicea can not stand where they are they must repent and become zealous, they must begin again to overcome the sins that are in us all and defeat satan in all his traps.

Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Rev 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

We must overcome as Christ overcame. We can’t afford to be so sound asleep when He knocks that we cannot wake up in time. We must be filling our reservoirs of oil/Holy Spirit NOW while it is still day.

There is coming a time when it will be to late there will not be enough time, then, to fill our lamps.

Brethren now especially in these dark times we need to be a LIGHT to the world a lamp set on a hill if you will. That requires lots of God Holy Spirit to accomplish.

Jesus Christ is our Drum major brethren and He has not called us to march in place, rather He is calling for us to move forward as a body using the tools and instruments He has given us and the training we have gained to perform as the Body of Christ is expected to. All of us working in unison each fulfilling his or her role in this spiritual temple being described as a marching band. It is truly rewarding, exciting and uplifting to each of us moving forward fulfilling our functions to the very best of our ability as part of a larger whole.

Many thanks to Art Braidic for his help in putting together some of the scriptures for this subject.
