God wants us to be Consistent and Faithful to Him (Part 3 Distractions)

11 Wisdom keys to avoid distractions and protect your focus

In this series, we have learned that in being faithful and consistent in our relationship with the Lord we must persevere, and have the right daily habits to keep on track.

Today we will learn we must avoid distractions of any kind in our lives that would hinder our relationship with the Lord.

“The only reason why men fail is broken focus”

The focus; is anything that consumes your time, energy, finances and attention. You might say that the focus on wrong things or ideas constitutes Idolatry in today’s world.
Satan will try to break your focus on the Lord.
The Word of God encourages us to prioritize our time, energy, finances and keep our attention on Him.

Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

1) Focus determines mastery.

Anything that has the ability to keep your attention has mastered you.

(Joh 8:34)  Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

2) Your focus determines your energy.

If you really love the Lord, when the alarm goes off on Sabbath morning, the thought of coming to church will give you energy, and you will get up easily because you have been looking forward to coming.

(Eph 4:1)  I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

3) What you look at the longest becomes the strongest in your life.

Philippians 3:13-14 (NLT)
13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,
14 I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.

4) Broken focus creates insecurity and instability in everything around you.

James 1:8 (NIV)
8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
James 1:8 (NLT)
8 They can’t make up their minds. They waver back and forth in everything they do.

5) Only focused faith can produce miracles from the hand of God.

James 1:6-8 (NLT)
6 But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
7 People like that should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
8 They can’t make up their minds. They waver back and forth in everything they do.

6) Sight affects desire

What you keep looking upon, you eventually pursue.

Mine eye affecteth mine heart (Lamentations 3:51)

Jos 1:7  Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
Jos 1:8  This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Jos 1:9  Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Pro 23:7  For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:

Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)

23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.

7) Focusing on the Word of God daily is necessary and extremely important.

Deu 11:13  And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
Deu 11:14  That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.
Deu 11:15  And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
Deu 11:16  Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;
Deu 11:17  And then the LORD’S wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.
Deu 11:18  Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.
Deu 11:19  And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Deu 11:20  And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates:
Deu 11:21  That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.
Deu 11:22  For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;

8) What you keep seeing determines your focus.

Psalms 101:3 (NKJV)
3 I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me.
Psalms 101:3 (NLT)
3 I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them.

9) Your enemy is anyone who breaks your focus
10) Your friend is anyone who helps keep you focused on your relationship with the Lord.

Hebrews 10:24 (NLT)
24 Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds.

11) Guard your personal schedule

Your daily agenda is your life. Protect your list of priorities. Put God first in everything!

  1. What or who is distracting you away from your relationship with the Lord?
  2. Who is encouraging your relationship with the Lord?
  3. Are you reading your bible, praying, and spending quiet time with the Lord every day? If not what do you need to change to make that happen?
  4. What things do you need to give up in order to have more time with God?
  5. Are you attending church consistently? If not why not?
  6. Are you paying your tithes consistently? If not why not?
  7. When will you change these things that are inconsistent in your life?

The problem that many in Laodicea seem to have is a Lack of Focus. They seem to think that they have all they need and that they are where they need to be and because of this attitude of mind they have become unfocused on God and His way of Life.

They do not see what needs to be changed in their own lives because they are not focused on that. This lack of focus has put them to sleep and has caused them to lose the zeal they once had for the world of God. Lack of focus can do that to any of us. In fact when you think about it. How can you become zealous if you have nothing to be zealous about?

If you are not focused on doing God’s work, on becoming the King or Priest that we are destined to be then you will not have the zeal needed to break out of the Laodicean mindset and will likely only find it again when you find yourself in the middle of the Great Tribulation.

Christ is knocking on the door people, He is trying to get our attention so that as many as can be will be saved out of the tribulation coming.

Stop and take stock, brethren. On this day of Atonement, look at your self and determine just what sins you are repenting of and what is being taken away from you and Refocus your life onto correcting those sins and living zealously as God would have it. It might well save your life given what is just ahead of us.
