Lately we have talked a great deal about Zeal. Certainly one of the HOT topics of the Laodicean ERA.
One of the tools that we can use to increase our Zeal is to stir up the Spirit within us. Notice 2 Timothy 1:6-7;
2 Timothy:1:6-7 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Just as we can stir up the Spirit we can also quench it.
Thessalonians:5:19 Quench not the Spirit
Notice how the Spirit is likened to a live coal in a fire. It can be stirred up and fanned into a flame again.. We are warned not to neglect the Spirit so that it does not grow cold.
People who have a lukewarm attitude are those whose Spirit is growing cold and is in danger of being quenched.
God’s Spirit gives us courage, strength and Love. We need those characteristics to maintain our Spiritual health through the hard times that are coming. Notice in Phillipians 2:13;
Php_2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Truly a tool to be kept sharp and ready to use. So here are a few scriptures that show us how to keep that fire stirred up and functioning at peak efficiency.
In 2 Peter 1:13 Peter tells us that remembering the things that have been taught will stir up the spirit within us.
2Pe 1:13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
Here is a list of those things which Peter was specifically bring back to their minds;
2Pe 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
2Pe 1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
2Pe 1:7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
2Pe 1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
These character traits that really reflect the gifts of God’s Spirit will make sure that we are fruitful and growing in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
In fact looking further into verse 10 we see that Peter says that using these traits of God’s Holy Spirit in our lives we make sure that WE NEVER FAIL. They make our Calling and Election sure.
2Pe 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
Notice that bringing us into remembrance of these traits within us in itself stirs up the spirit within us.
Something else that we should take the time to think about is what causes us to weaken in our spirit life and how to resist that cooling down of the spiritual fires.
Many times in our lives and I think more and more as we come closer to the time when satan will be given power over us, we have to struggle against problems and events sin our lives that distract and weaken us spiritually. At times like these we must remember and become aware of the tools of Spiritual warfare that have been given to us.
Notice in Ephesians 6:13
Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

- Word of God
Remember these things brethren and they will stir up the spirit that is in you. Just remembering these powerful tools and character traits that come from having God’s Spirit within are themselves powerful motivators and will stir the fire that is God’s Spirit to life within us.
The last one mentioned is prayer. Think of prayer as the power cord that turns all these marvelous gifts on in our lives. Regular earnest prayer to God brings the power of all these gifts to life within us.
We are supposed to be a light to the world well that light is not coming from us brethren. It is coming from the power of the Holy Spirit within us. Once that dynamic Spritual Fire as been stoked within us then the light will shine forth and our zeal will be unstoppable.
That is what Christ wants to see from this End of the Age Church of God.
We need to keep our relationship and trust in God active. Combing Fasting with our active prayers will stir up the zeal within us and help to renew our minds, our commitment and and spirit within us. Fasting shows us that we are not self sufficient and how much we depend on things outside of ourselves. It also proves to us that we can bring our bodies into subject as Paul said in I Corinthians 9:27;
1Co_9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
James 4:8 says to Draw near to God and He will draw near to you
James:4:8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded
Through constant prayer and occasional fasting and by bring back to mind those things that we have been given we can continually stir up and fan into flame the Spirit of God within us.
