The Laodicean ERA of the Church is seen having a Lukewarm attitude. They are told to repent and become Zealous again.

(Rev 3:19)  As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

But how do we become Zealous? Overcoming a lukewarm attitude is a combined effort of the Spirit and the Heart. If the heart and mind are ready, the spirit will indeed stir us up to become more zealous.

Exo 35:21  And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD’S offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments.

We have to want to become more zealous and then the Spirit within will give us the power to stir up our minds and actions. In fact, our redemption was to make us ZEALOUS of Good Works.

(Tit 2:14)  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Three times we are told that we are to stir up ourselves by remembering:

(2Ti 1:6)  Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

(2Pe 1:13)  Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

2Pe 3:1  This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2Pe 3:2  That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

When God repeats something in the word, it is important. Here He is saying the same thing three times; we can be stirred up or become more zealous by remembering what we were taught at the beginning.

Do you remember what is what like when you began to understand the truths of God Plan! Do you REMEMBER the excitement you felt? Brethren that is the kind of excited zealous mindset that God wants to see in us His end-time church!

Look at how much has been given to us, how much we understand about His plan, how exciting it is to contemplate not only what God is doing but our part in it. REMEMBER, brethren,  find the excitement we had at the beginning.

It is the Lord that can stir up that Spirit within you pray for His help so that we can break free of this lukewarm lackadaisical attitude that is so prevalent today.

2Ch 36:22  Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

We as a church are taking everything we have been given for granted. It no longer stirs us up. We have a ho-hum attitude about our knowledge and our calling. This cannot be allowed to go on.

When God told the Ephesus ERA to get back to the first love that they had lost He told them to get back to their first works to get back that first love, that love for the truth that we all had when we first learned what God had in mind for us and mankind.

(Rev 2:5)  Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

But notice the works that they were to get back to;

(Rev 2:2)  I know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
(Rev 2:3)  And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

  1. They labored, worked hard to be the Christians they were called to be
  2. They had patience when the world was turned against them
  3. They could not bear those that were evil
  4. the found out those who claimed to be apostles and were not
  5. They bore the burdens of others
  6. the word mentioned twice that they had patience
  7. The worked hard
  8. and did not faint.

We have to remember how we lived when we first learned when we were first given the Love of the Truth from God’s Spirit because honestly we did not come equipped with that love it was a gift and we had a vast zealousness because of it. Let’s remember what that was like and do it again. If we get back to those first works, the enthusiasm and zealousness will come again. God will stir it up in us. We have only to REMEMBER!
