One of the 4 tools used to get close to God is studying His word. In fact it is a major tool in developing real FAITH!
(Rom 10:17) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Christ was the Logos, when we read the words of Christ we are hearing them in our minds. Our faith is strengthened and expanded as we continue to read His words.
Bible Study can take many different turns and they are not necessarily wrong. Yet this ERA of God’s church is defined as having such a wealth of knowledge regarding God that they feel they have no need of anything else.
Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
We truly do know more about God’s Plan and His Doctrines than almost any other ERA of God’s Church. And yet we are still considered as a whole to be “wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked”. I wonder if part of the problem may be that we have gotten out of the habit of just reading God’s word on a regular habitual basis?
Sure we can learn a lot about God and His plans from reading material written by others but no matter how good these things are, we are still getting God’s word second hand. To a real extent it is being filtered through human channels and in some ways obscured by human ideas and traditions.
This should never take the place of our reading the word of God for ourselves and letting God talk to us from the pages of the bible and the unfiltered words of Christ. Our faith, hope and love should be grounded in God’s word. We need to keep ourselves immersed in God’s word it is His power in our lives. There is a reason the sword of the Holy Spirit is the word of God. If we fill up our minds and hearts with what God has to say directly to each of us then the defensive as well as the offensive power of the Sword will be available to us.
Read the word daily, set up a systematic method of reading it and make it a daily habit. I can think of no greater way to put on Christ that to immerse ourselves daily in His words.
Do you want to break free of that lukewarm attitude, then let the words of God reign in your minds and hearts. You will see soon enough what you have need of.
Here are some thoughts that may be of help;
- Read the Bible with an Open mind
- Read it thoughtfully
- Keep some means of marking it and taking notes in its margins handy.
- Use a system when reading to make sure you go through it completely
- Set up a time for reading that you can use on a regular basis remember make it a habit
Remember we all have many places that we can go to read what others are saying about God’s word. But God is working with each one of us, especially in this era. His word unfiltered by anothers ideas is where you will hear Him speaking to you and answering your questions. The habitual reading of God’s word with a correct attitude will truly instill in you a powerful faith and help you to put on the mind of Christ as nothing else could.
