I was reviewing a sermon we heard this week on the factors that has allowed the Laodicean attitude to prevail in God’s church. One of the factors mentioned was “Satiety”; a feeling or condition of being full after eating food.

It brought this scripture to mind:

Luk_21:34  And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

But I think there is another spiritual side of this that should be examined as well.

We are told that Laodicea is rich and increased with goods. What happens when you eat a full meal and you are sated. You know the feeling, think of how you feel after a large Thanksgiving Meal. You are full, you are satisfied and you are SLEEPY!

Laodicea is in a similar situation they are full up with the word of God. They have this satisfied sleepy feeling that comes after a full meal and are in fact drifting off to sleep. They feel satisfied (have need of nothing), they feel safe from having been given so much of the truths of God.

Yet we are told to stay awake and to be watchful. It is truly hard to do this when we have this satisfied/full feeling from having feasted on God’s word for so long.

So what’s the answer. Exercise Brethren. Get you body and mind back under control by beginning to exercise your mind and develop that zealous attitude of repentance and love of the truth.

Remember how exciting it was to look at the table all laid out with Turkey and Dressing, Pumpkin pie and all the trimmings. Quite different after you finished the meal and were full. That is when the drowsiness began to creep in.

Just as light exercise can help you overcome the physical drowsiness of a full meal. Exercising God’s word in your life will bring back that feeling of Zeal and alertness, watchfulness that so many in today’s church ERA are missing.

Focus on living God’s way of life not just reading about it or hearing sermons about it. Meditate on your life like David did. Think about how you can live your life in ways that would be more pleasing to God. Spiritual Exercise will in fact bring back the zeal that Christ says we need to have. It is not enough to know about God’s way we must Live God’s way to be successful.

Christ is knocking on your door now. Are you awake enough to answer in time?
