Occasionally I get and I am sure many others get as well articles or links to articles where the person who sent it just says; “What do you think about this”?
I am much more interested in what the person who sent it thinks than what the article says. You see if we are willing to pass over a doctrine that we can not prove to another brother in the body of Christ then we could be causing divisions and spreading heresies.
1Co_3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
When we introduce doctrines that the group that we are with does not agree with then we are causing strife and divisions within the Body. We should be striving to agree with one another not pushing things that cause us to disagree. Why can we not concentrate on those things that we can agree on rather than stressing and arguing over those things that we cannot agree on. What is the fruit of that, brethren? Satan loves to sow discord and confusion amongst the brethren.
Should it be our job to search out every thing we can find that is different than what we presently believe and then parade it out to all the brethren who will give an ear. Do you think that is going to make us a more cohesive group of people? To place yet another doctrine or thought that we can disagree over. I would have to say as Paul does that if you do then you are yet carnal and not converted as you should be.
Consider this carefully;
Rom_16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
If you are in fact doing such a thing then to me the scripture above fits. We should indeed avoid those who do such things.
Luk_12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
Brethren Doctrine does in fact divide. Even True doctrine can divide if presented in a wrong manner.
Mat_18:7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
It is a serious matter to spread material amongst the body of Christ that might offend. Especially offend a little one;
Mat 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
We need to take the scriptures to heart brethren.
But above all when there is something that has brought a question to your mind and you wish to ask about it. Do so with the scriptures that are given to prove their points. And just as important, Never EVER approach a brother in Christ if you are unable to esteem him as better than your self;
(Php 2:3) Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
If you are talking about a scriptural subject where there is disagreement then you must adhere to the scripture above. Too many enter into a conversation and are unwilling to even hear what the other person has to say. Is that esteeming that person as better than yourself? It doesn’t matter if you KNOW they are wrong, if you “esteem them better than yourself”, then you owe them the courtesy to hear them.
In any disagreement of a spiritual matter it must come down to the scriptures themselves and not what men say about them. If you put enough related scriptures on the table the truth will come out. TRUST the Holy Spirit within you to do that brethren and you will not fail.
2Pe_2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
We must be very careful that we do not go about spreading heresies. That means before we talk to others about something we have found we must convince ourselves of the truth of it. An even then the proper thing would be to pass it over to the ministry before you start spreading it around to the brethren. Remember it is your responsibility as a steward of God’s word to evaluate something from God’s word before passing it along. If you cannot or do not feel qualified then don’t pass it along except to a minister but if you expect him to take the time to even review it not to mention study it, you will have to explain to him why you think it is true and what scriptures were given to make you believe that. If you cannot do that then do nothing at all.
