Paul admonishes us in Hebrews to NOT FORSAKE to assemble ourselves, together!
Heb_10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
But what does that mean? Many of us belonging to the body of Christ find that we are not close to a physical group where we can attend services and fellowship with our brethren easily. Many are forced to spend the Sabbath listening to “live” or “recorded” sermons on the Internet or phone lines in our homes. But is that “assembling ourselves together”?
The Greek word for assembling is:
From G1996; a complete collection; specifically a Christian meeting (for worship): – assembling (gathering) together.
Total KJV Occurrences: 2
The usage is encouraging us to gather together in the same place physically.
The statement is made, following verse 24, which states;
Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
The idea is that to motivate one another to love and good works we should not forsake the assembling of ourselves together.
But what options do we have other than listening to sermons, being given over the internet or phones? Does that constitute our gathering together? No, because if we cannot communicate with each other, then we cannot provoke one another to love and good works.
What we do here and what many of our groups are beginning to do around the world, is to use the facilities of the Internet to join people together. The Internet provides interactive online meeting rooms where video, audio, and text chat can be used to talk with your brethren before and after services and to ask questions in Bible study environments.
You can see who is in the room by name and have a chance to get to know them over time. We can help folks through problems and encourage them when times are hard.
We use a program called Zoom at http://zoom.us to provide the online meeting room it costs as little as 10.00 a month from Zoom.us so cost is not an objection.
I am reaching out to the various congregations of believers out there to do something like this for your people. For those who cannot attend with you physically but listen in to your broadcasts. They need a place to go where they can fellowship and encourage each other.
It is easy to provide this for your people, to that end, I invite any who want to see this kind of online environment in action to either drop by one of our online events that are scheduled. You can also meet me in our online room for training on; how to use the room, what it costs, how to maintain control over the people using the room in case someone comes in who wants to spew heresy. You control it the same way you do at the physical church service; you remove the offender. The room’s host has complete control over the meeting room and can instantly correct any problems. You can call me at 806-471-1142 to set up a time where we can meet or send me an email to email@example.com. I will call you. I offer this as a free service I make no money off this. I believe that our people need to fellowship together and this tool provides a way.
Can bad things happen when our people meet together? Of course, Satan is always looking to confuse and disrupt. But should that keep us from providing a way for our people to “not forsake the assembling of ourselves together” as we are commanded to do? No, I do not believe so.
The people that come to our meetings seem to enjoy doing so and say they get a lot out of it.
Take a look at what God thinks about our people being able to meet and talk to each other:
Mal 3:16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
Mal 3:17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
God puts great stock in our people meeting and fellowshipping together. Here are tools that allow that to happen and gives you an opportunity to draw folks to you that you could not otherwise reach. It is worth considering in my judgment. I am here to help in any way that I can
