Obviously God gave us Prophetic Mile Markers that we need to be aware of so that we can see the seasons that we are in and be able to grasp the urgency of the days that we live in.
What started me on this study this morning was that I was reading in Proverbs 4 and came across this:
Pro 4:25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
Pro 4:26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
In the first verse above the admonition is to keep looking straight ahead, being somewhat A.D.D. that held some meaning to me because I am easily distracted as I do keep looking from side to side trying to take in everything at once.
Here the word is showing us that we must be focused and not be distracted from doing what is right. The distraction with entertainment(TV etc.) can certainly be a distraction and cause us to lose focus on our life and what we should be doing. Kind of like when Peter was walking on water. Everything was fine as long as he was focused on Christ but when the wind and the waves distracted him he lost his focus and began to sink immediately.
Then it goes on to say to ponder the path of your feet in order to establish the way. I read that to WATCH my path. Watch what I am doing in other words. So thinking about that I did a word search on the word “Watch” to see how it was used.
I came up with several other scriptures that seemed to help me see a deeper meaning of the word watch. That give it certainly a two-fold meaning as we are commanded to watch in these end-times.
Luk 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
Luk 21:35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
Luk 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
To take heed to ourselves certainly means to watch ourselves and our actions to “ponder our path” so to speak. Vs 36 say we are to “Watch ye therefore”. Therefore certainly ties this back to the warning above to “take heed” so that our lives will not be filled with the cares of this world and we do not see what we are doing and how our actions are keeping us from being “accounted worthy to escape”.
Notice how Paul ties Watching to our actions:
1Co 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
Then Peter ties it to the “end of all things”.
1Pe_4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
Here the use of “therefore” ties the admonition to be “sober and watch” to the “end of all things”.
So as Christ is Knocking on our doors, His message is to Repent to begin to Zealously watch not only for the signs of His coming but in order to be ready for that appearing we must be watching our actions, our ways, that we might be accounted worthy. Otherwise we will miss His appearing.
This ties in very well with the condition of the Laodicean Church in general as they are blinded and cannot see not only their sins but also the times and seasons. This is why the watch work that Christ commands that we do is so important. It is indeed the eye salve that will save many who are in the Laodicean mindset and cannot see and therefore cannot get ready for that Day when Christ will be revealed to the church.
Every time I start studying something it is amazing how it all ties into what Christ is doing today.
