In another post on this blog, we have been discussing when a person is endanger of losing his eternal salvation. This post continues on but in a little different vein.
Many are Called but few are Chosen
Mat_22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
What does this mean and what is the process involved. Who are called? What are they called to? Who is doing the calling and who chooses those that are “Chosen”. And for that matter why is one called and not chosen, what is the criteria for being chosen?
Do we have anything to do with being Chosen or is there someone else that ultimately chooses?
A lot of good questions. I just hope that I can find enough relative scriptures to answer them.
Act_2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
God the Father is the one who calls us. There are two harvests of people shown in the bible. There is an early “spring” harvest that is much smaller than the larger “Fall” harvest. There are much fewer people called to this first harvest than there are to the latter.
Joh_6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day
God the Father calls us to Christ.
1Pe_2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
They are called to Christ to the light. Called to be a part of His Kingdom.
2Co_6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Called to be Sons and Daughters of God
Rom_8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
When God begins calling us His spirit is working with us to lead us to repentance and baptism so that we can receive his Holy Spirit and become converted.
Joh 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
Joh 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
This is what the Father does after we have received His Spirit to bring forth fruit in us. But He is working with each of those called in the same way. He wants them to have His Spirit all they have to do is ask for repentance, in truth. God will only grant them true repentance if He sees true sincerity and willingness to obey and be led by the Spirit.
Now the crux of the matter is if one of these called out ones sees the truth but decides against it. Is he at this time held responsible for that decision? What resurrection will he come up in, 2nd or 3rd?
